Buy Nothing Day

Buy Nothing Day is on the 24th of November. Perhaps you could organise a day out to the beach or to the country taking a packed lunch. Perhaps you could just spend the day in bed! Whatever you do you'll feel better for not buying anything for a day! BTW Across the pond it's on the 23rd - ...

The Nag

The Nag The folks at anti-apathy have a new campaign called 'The Nag'. You sign up and then it emails you every month with one thing you can do to make your life more sustainable. Seemed a bit London centric asking for 'borough' when you sign up apart from that it makes the subject quite entertaining. It's free and it's easy!

Stop Climate Chaos National Event

Just had some one post a comment about this - slightly bizarre as it was a completly unrelated to the actual post. But thanks for pointing it out to be me Calvin. I won't be able to make it as my parents are stopping by but don't let that stop you going! I would probably take some flame retardant clothing too as it is the day before Bonfire Night. ...

New recycling system in Bournemouth

Our new recycling system is apparently now up and running - the main problem for me at the moment is I keep forgetting to put the bins out and that the 'big' bin that is used for the recycled stuff is almost full already and we haven't even put it out yet. Once we get sorted it out will make our lives a lot easier as will not having ...

Organic Fortnight

Organic Fortnight Organic Fortnight is between the 2nd and 17th of September and is organised by the Soil Association. There are lots of events going on around the country but none it seems, in my neck of the woods. The closest is in Bridport which thinking about about we might be able to get to as we are on our hols then and we ...

More Scenes

More Scenes from a SmallholdingI haven't added anything to this blog for a while and I noticed that Chas Griffin added a comment to my post about Scenes from a Smallholding. I was slightly confused at the 'no relation to Ali' part as my wife is called Ali but it's cool having a celebrity comment. It also good to ...

DWT Hardy Hike

This walk takes place in an area me and the wife know quite well. It's actually an amazing bit of coastline where the walk takes place. Until we moved here I didn't realise how beautiful it is. I would say it is easy to compare it with somewhere like the Lake District or North Wales in ...

WI Packaging Day of Action 20 June 2006

WI Packaging Day of Action 20 June 2006 - this completely passed me by today I just caught something about it on a local news this evening. The Womens Insitute are campaigning to reduce packaging and waste in general from supermarkets. It does bug me that you can buy organic produce from a supermarket but the produce is packed plastic that doesn't bio-degrade. Numbers of plastic bags that supermarkets ...

Bumblebees

There was an article in The Independant about bumblebees and the problems they are having. Apparently 3 UK species have become extinct and 5 and getting there. You can't actually read the whole article without paying so I will kind of summarise here from what I can remember and what I have found out. You can support the Bumblebee Conservation Trust by joining it here. If you join you ...

Treehugger: The Sustainable Retreat

The Sustainable Retreat – ahhhhh – I like the look of this I would live in one. I would knock down our victorian semi and put one of these in the gap – not sure the neighbours would like it very much though – don’t think much of the web site – very difficult to navigate and read – I have to admit I mainly looked ...
