Dorset foodweek is coming up there a lots of events going on around Dorset including tastings, cookery workshops and markets. It's not often I get to hear about something that is so local to me so this is really good. We will be going going to Penn Hill farmers market which is where I found out ...

Local shops
I saw this on the FOE Youtube page - it's quite funny with a serious point and it rips off the Tescos ads which has to be good!

Bananas
Listened to George Monbiot on the radio today talking about Fairtrade bananas at Sainburys. He was quite cool. The cheif exceutive of Sainsburys was on talking about switching all their bananas over to Fairtrade. I think he hit the nail on the head when he asked what Sainsburys margins were on the bananas. It does make you think about why Fairtrade was introduced - I think the reason ...

New recycling system in Bournemouth
Our new recycling system is apparently now up and running - the main problem for me at the moment is I keep forgetting to put the bins out and that the 'big' bin that is used for the recycled stuff is almost full already and we haven't even put it out yet. Once we get sorted it out will make our lives a lot easier as will not having ...

Car-less
Due to some unfortunate circumstances we are car-less at the moment. I'm sure once the insurance money comes through we will get another car but at the moment we have to manage without. There's a few things this has made me think about: When we do get another car I'll will be keeping more strictly to the speed limits. If I had been going any faster, I was under the ...

WI Packaging Day of Action 20 June 2006
WI Packaging Day of Action 20 June 2006 - this completely passed me by today I just caught something about it on a local news this evening. The Womens Insitute are campaigning to reduce packaging and waste in general from supermarkets. It does bug me that you can buy organic produce from a supermarket but the produce is packed plastic that doesn't bio-degrade. Numbers of plastic bags that supermarkets ...

Fairtrade Fortnight
Fairtrade Fortnight – if you didn’t know already it’s Fairtrade Fortnight from the 6th-19th of March. Fairtrade seems to be getting trendy – we managed to get some Fairtrade jam from Sainsburys last night – I think the sugar used was Fairtrade from what I could work out on the packaging. You get extra nectar points for buying Fairtrade at Sainsburys as well! (not that I really condone the ...

Going cheap
Going cheap – I love this – I have to keep an eye on my wife when we go out shopping she always gets distracted by bags of all shapes and sizes. It also seem that repear shops are closing – this seems odd as I have seen alot of web sites to do with modding which I think is a pretty green idea. My general philosophy is that ...
