Listened to George Monbiot on the radio today talking about Fairtrade bananas at Sainburys. He was quite cool. The cheif exceutive of Sainsburys was on talking about switching all their bananas over to Fairtrade. I think he hit the nail on the head when he asked what Sainsburys margins were on the bananas. It does make you think about why Fairtrade was introduced – I think the reason was to give producers a fair price for what they were selling rather than being hammered down by big supermarkets.

Anyway despite our best effort we still shop at Sainsburys. I think we are caught up in the catch 22 that I think effects many people like us who would rather not go to the supermarket and do a weekly shop but feel that due to work and money they have to go to a big supermarket.

We do try though!
