Downtime

Had a bit of a problem yesterday - this site was down - I think partly because it was Sunday and partly because the hosting renewal was up. Anyway it's all paid up for another year now so hopefully no more problems for a bit!

Scenes from a Smallholding

Scenes from a Smallholding My lovely wife to be gave this book to me for Christmas. It’s very funny – the writing style is a bit like Bill Bryson. It does make you want to do what Chas and his family did but at the moment I am going to stick with my back garden – try and actually grow something in it this year! I think ...

A Good Life

A Good Life Bought this book over the weekend. It’s pretty interesting. Apparently the average woman ingests 1kg of lipstick over the course of her life. This book covers virtually everything to do with leading a ‘good life’ – apart from perhaps religion – I don’t think it misses much there though! It does’nt say anything is righ or wrong just tries to give you ...

CO2: This time it’s personal

CO2: This time it’s personal – interesting idea – I think making people face up to the problem would be good. Tax is not usually very popular – whereas this idea is pretty free – if you want to go on holiday you would need to save up your carbon allowance it doesn’t stop you going on holiday. Thinking about it I can see that airlines might not ...

Cut cleaning costs

Cut cleaning costs – We try and buy eco friendly cleaning stuff – mainly ecover – some of the products smell lovely. I really like the linseed floor cleaner. The Cocaine Jungle

The Cocaine Jungle – I caught a bit of this last night. It was interesting that one of people interviewed said that if you buy cocaine you are killing people in Columbia. If a load of celebrities got behind this idea like they did fur imagine what could happen. Although at the moment it seems most of them are too busy stuffing it up their noses.

101 New Uses for Everyday Things | Life Skills : RealSimple.com – this is is quite interesting. Not sure I will be shaving with olive oil though. It’s a bit annoying that you have to signup to see the rest of the site but I guess that’s the idea.

Collins Save Cash and Save the Planet

Collins Save Cash and Save the Planet I think this looks like one for the wish list. Seems to combine the two things I like most ‘money’ and ‘saving the planet’. I found some reviews on the Friends of the Earth site you can also buy it here if you want rather than from Amazon. If I get it I will post some ...

8 ways you can help the third world

I was just looking at an article that my other half found the in the Sun last week. It lists 8 ways of helping the the third world. I have just noticed that 3 ways to help are buying fairtrade goods – which I think is a bit of a cop out. In case you are interested the 8 ways are: Drink fairtrade coffee Adopt a child – look at actionaid.org.uk Be ...

Nice new look

Got rid of the horrible grey skin that comes with bblog. I think this green one is more in keeping with the general idea of the blog. I will carry on tweaking it to get it a bit more user friendly – getting rid of fixed font sizes etc – but I think this will do for now.
