8 ways you can help the third world

I was just looking at an article that my other half found the in the Sun last week. It lists 8 ways of helping the the third world. I have just noticed that 3 ways to help are buying fairtrade goods – which I think is a bit of a cop out.

In case you are interested the 8 ways are:

  1. Drink fairtrade coffee
  2. Adopt a child – look at actionaid.org.uk
  3. Be a thoughfule holiday maker – e.g. don’t eat at Mcdonalds when you are in Nairobi.
  4. Give a goat – this is a goody – look here: Oxfam Unwrapped
  5. Buy fairtrade food
  6. Wear fairtrade fashion
  7. Listen to music – this is bit iffy you are supposed to download the mp3 of Sgt Pepper from Live8
  8. lend a hand – volunteer for something – they specifically mention VSO

As two extra to make up the repeat fairtrade one how about:

  1. Recycle your old mobile phone – see Bring Bring
  2. Donate you old computer – see Computers for African Schools

I think I might be repeating myself – but never mind it was hard enough finding these.
